Musical Director

Garth Davies

Garth Davies is our Musical Director and is receiving some excellent coaching from LABBS and sage advice from our former MD Nova. He’s been an avid barbershopper since 2017 and says that music has played a large part in his life ever since leaving school in South Wales with A levels in languages and music. He played viola for his county and is a pianist.

He focussed on a legal career before regaining his love of singing and says there has never been a time when he hasn’t sung with at least one ensemble – the current count is 8 and rising. He  sings with the Rhos Male Voice Choir, Coventry Welsh Choir, a chamber choir and several quartets. He gained his barbershop experience from singing with Tuxedo Junction and Malevox before going on to arranging barbershop music and taking part in quartet competitions. Garth doesn’t have a favourite song or singer but if he did, he says it would definitely be in the ‘old’ barbershop style.

Garth started his directing career with the Decibelles in Nuneaton near Coventry in late 2021 before joining us and says the chance to direct Mountain Harmony was the perfect opportunity to share his enthusiasm for a cappella singing - he particularly appreciates the fact that its singers are responsive to his coaching and new ideas.  Welcome to our fabulous barbershop chorus Garth & we look forward to improving our performances with you at the helm!
